Our feet moved and our eyes were open, but both were heavy from the lack of sleep in the past 24 hours. How would we make it through a long dinner on our first night here in Spain? How were we going to have the energy to attempt conversation in another language?
All twenty of us (13 in our group, 6 of the church leaders, and our new friend and translator) sat down in a golden-yellow room, eyes gaping at the spread of appetizers layed out before us. Carne y manchego y pan y potatos y pescado y muchas otros cosas. And that was just the start of it!
By the time the main course arrived, our heavy eyes were bright, and conversation flowed like the vino y agua. Somehow the fear and anxiousness of conversing in a foreign tongue had been lifted and even the quietest of the group was brave in talking and quick at making friends.
When we arrived back at the hotel later in the evening, spirits were high and hopeful for the day ahead.
